An Appeal to the Coaching Staff

Work Matt Scott into the offense, just a little bit.

This is not to be construed as an assault on Nick Foles.  I love Sunshine.  He is the present and future of the Arizona football program.  That is clear, and I could not be happier about his immediate success.  He is ready for the big-time and it will be a joy to watch him play as long as he dons an Arizona jersey.

But, Scott could bring an extra dimension to the Arizona rushing attack. Particularly, when it was sorely needing a playmaker last Saturday night.  Let's see Scott get a little action as a change-of-pace to Foles.  And again, this is not a promotion of a two quarterback system.  Foles is the clear-cut #1.  Let's get Scott back on the field for a few snaps to show off his electric running ability.

if you want him to run the ball

it’s not as if we couldn’t use him on some “wildcat” formations or as a run/throw option with Foles. I think that you are playing with fire though if you start swapping these guys out for a series. Foles had what, two bad throws against UDub (I know, an exaggeration, but not by much) and you’re wanting to throw Scott back in who imploded so badly at Iowa and was showing cracks as far back as the first game of the season?

We finally get a QB that understand what Sonny wants and you wanna swap him out? If we want some playmakers, hows about some linebackers that don’t give up 15 yard gifts on late hits or even ones that tackle QB’s when they are blitzing?

I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused....

This was not an attack on Foles

I was just throwing it out there as an option the Cats could take advantage of.

Scott is averaging 7.4 yards per carry (albeit in a small sample size). But, his running ability is proven. Nwoko and Booth have some potential, but I’d hold off on calling them elite yet.

Grigs and Antolin have been hampered the last couple games by various injuries. And we did not run the ball that well against Washington, whose defense is not exactly formidable. This week we play a much tougher Stanford D. I still think it’s a potential option for the Cats.

I’m talking about two or three plays a game to give some opponents a different look.

Arizona is the best running team in the league right now

Every Wildcat snap that would go to Scott is a touch taken away from the four quality tailbacks we already have and the wide receivers. The one thing Arizona probably doesn’t need is another guys who need touches.

Foles is the guy for right now. Give it a couple more weeks as more teams get film on him, and Scott may work his way back into the rotation. I don’t think we need to force it. Let’s just allow it to work itself out.

I have to say

I think that Scott has already touched the field much more than he should have all year. I voted to keep him on the sideline.
