Arizona Quick Hits: January 19, 2010

Well, I'm back.  Sorry I have been unable to get to the site in awhile.  Work/out of town have kept me away from the computer.  Let's see what's been happening in Cats sports lately:

Arizona played at Oregon State last Thursday and fell to the Beavers 67-64.  Derrick Williams had another outstanding game scoring 20 points.

Derrick Williams followed his 20 point game against Oregon State with a 20 point game against Oregon 2 days later.  The Cats beat the Ducks 74-60.   Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Arizona picked up another commit on Sunday with three star commit Kyle Benson giving his verbal to the Cats.  Arizona currently has 20 commits for the 2010 class.  Arizona currently has the 33rd best recruiting class in the nation.  The Cats are still holding out for four star commit Corey Cooper to make his decision, with Arizona being a "medium" on his scale.

Star-divide

Rob Gronkowski announced the inevitable and announced he is declaring for the NFL draft.   There is a chance that all three Gronkowski brothers could be in the NFL.  Crazy.

Who says that money doesn't buy happiness.  Ask USC's boosters what you can get for $800,000.

The Cats play at Arizona State this week.  Arizona State is 14-5 and 4-2 in conference.

Arizona baseball begins practice on February 1, 2010.  The Cats are looking for a big 2010 season by turning to a younger crowd.   Arizona could have 22 newcomers and 17 true freshmen.  Get ready to learn some new names.

Is he TOO good? Could he be a one-and-done? I hope not, but it looks like the most we get him is for 2 years.

sorry Joe,

I was at the Ft. Lowell Shootout all weekend doing the family thing. Didn’t see the games enough to feel confident to do a writeup.

@Zorba I’m hoping that we get him for three, since he’s playing out of position… but cripes we should all pitch in and buy Tim Floyd a fruit basket or something as a way of saying thanks.

I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused....

Saw bits and pieces of the OU win...

The perimeter D was really good. They took Porter completely away and pounded the glass. They also stayed away from long stretches of empty possessions, where they apparently did not do that in some prior games.

I do like the generally unselfish play, particularly for a team so young. Typically, when you play a bunch of kids who aren’t winning right away and their tendency is to be selfish. But, for the most part, these guys move the ball. Nic is the guy the team leans on while Mo Mo is learning the game, but Kyle Fogg is one of the best glue guys in America. That guy can score 8 or he can score 19, like he did in Eugene, and it feels like he had the same game. When he gets good looks he doesn’t miss.
