Swarmies: Week 8

The votes are in, so let’s take a look at the MVP’s and honorable mentions from the Washington @ Arizona game this past Saturday.

Offensive MVP: Matt Scott. Some differing opinions here, but the top vote-getter was Mr. Scott. He certainly had his biggest night so far in his college career, and I predict more good things in the near future for him. Matt Scott exercised great self-control and moved the ball down the field all night. I stand by my assertion that Scott will make deciding on a QB1 a tough decision for coach Stoops whenever Foles comes back from his injury. The Wildcats are lucky to have him.

AZ Desert Swarm's Smooty put it this way.  "Great game stepping in for the injured Foles. Managed the passing game well, hit Criner when he needed to, and mostly avoided sacks.  He also developed some quick chemistry with Antolin on the spread-option attack."

Star-divide

Defensive MVP: This one was tough, but the winner is DE Ricky Elmore. In the words of AZ Desert Swarm member ZombieJackTatum, "I think he spent more time in the Huskies backfield than on our side of the ball." Elmore accounted for 4 solo tackles, 2 assisted, and 1 sack. He was a major factor in the overall dominance of the defensive line.

Special Teams MVP: K Alex Zendejas. With legendary uncle Max and his former teammates in the house, Alex had 1 field goal for 29 yards, and made 5 of 6 extra point attempts. While he was the best of the special teams this week, we definitely need to see more consistency out of Zendejas. Especially with rumors flying that the Arizona coaching staff will be working out a few kicker recruits soon…

Freshman MVP: Shaquille Richardson. Another nice performance from Richardson, and another head scratcher from Trevin Wade. Is Wade trying to play hurt? He has not looked like himself in weeks now. Meanwhile, I’m starting to wonder why Richardson isn’t the starter at CB. If Wade is hurt, force him to let his leg heal. He is only hurting his draft stock right now.

Special Mention: The lines. The offensive and defensive lines were superb. Good job, gentlemen.

Disagree with these picks? Then make sure to send in your votes for this week’s game against UCLA. This time, we’ve added a few categories at the request of AZ Desert Swarm member TouchdownColts. So, when we put up the reminder, leave your votes in the comments, or email them to uofafanatic@gmail.com

I have really been impressed with Shaq this year.

I think this guy will be the next stud CB at Arizona for sure!!

Back when I was picking beans in Guatemala, we used to make fresh coffee, right off the trees I mean. That was good. This is shit but, hey, I'm in a police station.

Shaq has been a huge surprise

His arrival at UA is not what we dreams are made of, but I’m all for 2nd chances.

If he keeps himself out of trouble, it will be one hell of a steal for Stoops.

Indeed.

Shaq is looking like a starter. And Mike Stoops is the right guy to keep him out of trouble. His reputation for not tolerating rules violations is well documented.

I only disagree with the D MVP, I thought Vassallo did a heck of a job. He was a great find for the UA recruiters. Every game this guy is swarming ball carriers. His intensity reminds me of Tedy Bruschi. But the whole team looked incredible, hope they keep it up! GO CATS!

True.

You are correct, Vassallo had an amazing day. And, in general, he and Earls were great steals and are developing into great players. I just had to go with Elmore. His pressure on Locker was instrumental in the victory. Tough call, but if we get more votes in this week, it’ll be an easier one.
