Wildcats Linebacker Combos

I am trying to see what others think about the AZ linebackers Corps. What seemed to be one of their potential weaknesses at the start of the season has turned into being one of their biggest assets. Paul Vassallo is a beast, making some great open field tackles and shows some great talent. Derek Earls is involved in almost every single play, has great size and great speed. I noticed in the UCLA game that the other linebacker Jake Fischer, was switching out with Earls on multiple plays in the second half. I've noticed Fischer usually goes out in passing plays (their dime package), but not for the running downs (nickel package) in previous games. It seems like Vassallo and Earls have the running game down compared to the Vassallo and Fishcer combo.

Is it just myself that is noticing that the Earls Vassallo combo is much better off? I have a bad feeling that if the Wildcats keep on putting Fisher in on running players that teams like Sanford and Oregon will make note of it and exploit it.

I have been pleasantly surprised with our LB talent.

I was nervous coming into the year, but those guys have played lights out all year. Keep up the great work.

Back when I was picking beans in Guatemala, we used to make fresh coffee, right off the trees I mean. That was good. This is shit but, hey, I'm in a police station.

I trust the defensive staff.

They’ll make the appropriate moves at LB, based on the opponent and situation. Also, keep in mind that Earls and Vassallo get better every week. We haven’t seen their best performance yet.

Very Well

I agree with yeah 100%, I just noticed that they had changed from the nickel to the time in the UCLA game, but I didn’t take into account that they started to pass more. I have trusted the defensive staff so far, they only thing I would like to see is some more blitzes coming from the Vassallo/Earls corps.

I totally agree.

I don’t think we’ve even scratched the surface of what Vassallo and Earls can do, specifically regarding their blitzing.

Lets start scratching!

I would be curious to see what we could do against a passing team out of the nickel blitzing. Keep them on their toes! I know Earls and Vassallo both have some great speed, so seeing them fly through an A or B gap and then bringing in a corner to cover their spot would be great to see!
