Arizona 69 vs. Arizona State 73 Recap
Arizona couldn't catch up on Sunday, falling to the Sun Devils 73-69 at McKale. The Sun Devils were on, hitting 52% of their FG's and were 11-20 from 3 point land. Arizona didn't help themselves out much by turning the ball over 12 times and having many one and done possessions. Derrick Williams had 15 points and 5 rebounds. Nic Wise scored 18 and had 3 assists. Kyle Fogg chipped in13 points as well. Solomon Hill (foul king) had 4 personals in 16 minutes of play.
Richard Kuksis had 17 points on 17 points on 6-8 shooting and was 3-3 from 3 point land. This guy kills us! Ty Abbott scored 28 points, which was much less annoying than Kuksis' 17. Abbott was 11-17 on his FG's.
I don't know what it's going to take to get Miller to turn these kids around. They are young and that is showing right now in the midst of their losing ways. It's not going to get any easier with the Cats traveling to play at Cal and Stanford this week.

it's okay... really it is
ASU came out and executed, Arizona didn’t. they made their looks, Arizona didn’t. yes, perhaps there were too many open looks, but as often happens in a man to man, if someone gets hot, they start making them from everywhere, ASU had guys who were on target and for them to shoot as well as they did and Arizona to still keep the game close… well I think that still speaks well of the job that the coaches are doing.
Could we use someone who is dependable from the outside, yes, but he’s not enrolling til next year ;-). Kyle Fogg is progressing nicely, but he’s not a shooter. B-Lav is, but has confidence issues , so he’s a shaky gun at best. Nic can shoot, but is streaky, so is Mr. Horne, Parrom and Hill have mid range games, not suited to zone busting and until Arizona can improve its outside shooting consistently, Williams will continue to find the lane clogged with bodies.
It is what it is, when the shooting eye is working, we’re tough to beat, when it’s not, it’s tough to win.

Come ON!
I was so pumped up for this game (it was actually televised) and the CATS just didnt look up to the challenge! They had so many turnovers! I also dont get why we stopped the dribble-drive to the hoop. That’s our game! Under Lute’s last few years, we got away from that and I thought Miller knew what to do! Drive, and DISH!
Let’s win the next 4 games….
I dunno Zorba
in order to penetrate the lane, there has to be a lane to penetrate. ASU was daring the Cats to shoot from the outside. They couldn’t, so the middle stayed packed in. If they had anyone that could have made some outside shots (like in Tempe) then ASU would have had to come out and then the penetrate and dish would have been there, but from what I saw, the ASU matchup zone did what it was supposed to do, allow you to shoot jumpers from the wings. We didn’t have anyone who would take and make that shot consistently.
and yeah I was excited too, but for us to have shot that badly and to have been that close was still a pretty good testament to how far the team has come. You cite the turnovers, which are magnified in a slow down game like Sunday’s affair, yet compared to earlier games this season I’d say that they have improved overall. Not wanting to take away from effort, but you have guys now in Herbies system for the last two to three years and our guys still are on the upward trend on the learning scale.
