Courtesy of Rivals.com. Arizona really addressed its problems on the offensive and defensive lines. Another great class from Coach Stoops.

How Does AZ Stack Up to the Rest of the Pac 10?
It looks like out class is OKAY, but how did the rest of the Pac-10 do? Are we going to compete next year or what?
GO CATS!

Star Struck
We as fans should not look to far into recruiting rankings. USC, UCLA, Oregon, Cal, Washington and ASU were ranked higher than the U of A. The true measure of this class will two years down the road.
The defense needed to fill some immediate needs on the d-line and linebacker. If Mobley, Earls and Vassallo preform well; and with some of last years redshirts stepping up and contributing; the defense will be solid. I am hoping Flowers will add some speed and pop to our secondary. This class added depth on the O-Line and at wide receiver.
Stars rankings are misleading I remember a few years ago Louis Holmes was a 5 star JC d-lineman and he never lived up to that ranking. That being said Coach Stoops has put together a solid class. Go Cats!

Recruiting Class Rankings
I’m with CrazyCat. Recruiting class rankings are a quasi-useful tool when evaluating the talent level of incoming players based their high school play, how they “look on paper,” and what area of the country they played high school ball in. To me, it’s like all the experts ranking NFL Draft classes the day of the draft. No first round pick is a guaranteed star, and no 6th round pick is a guaranteed bench-warmer/practice squad player.
We should look back on recruiting classes two to three years down the road, then evaluate how well that class worked out.
This year, Arizona added some much needed depth on both lines, as well as some wide receivers that should fit in nicely with our already potent offense. The biggest point to me, is in-state recruiting. The state’s #1 player, Marquis Flowers is coming to Tucson. Huge for the Cats. We need to prevent the Scum Devils from nabbing the top talent in Arizona every year.
And, regarding the 4 and 5 star recruits, many of them have their eyes set on the perceived “big name” programs. Arizona is not there yet. And, if Stoops and Co. were to chase down these 5 star guys all year long, all that does is waste resources, time, and money on recruits who may just be giving the school lip service, while they have their eyes set on the supposed bigger and better programs. It seems Stoops has a great plan in mind, targeting and signing players that are actually interested in coming to Tucson.
Let’s hope the majority of these guys fit well into the program, and that one day soon Arizona is perceived nation-wide as one of the Big Programs.
Bear Down.
