Derrick Williams and Nic Wise were both named to the all Conference 1st team. Derrick Williams also was named as the PAC10 Freshman of the Year. After a challenging first year under Head Coach Sean Miller our topsy turvy Cats do manage to garner some accolades before the conference tournament even starts.
Well done gentlemen!
Others earning conference accolades:
Player of the Year
Cal guard Jerome Randle
Coach of the year
ASU coach Herb Sendek
Wilcats specifics:
Williams led the Wildcats in scoring (15.7 points), rebounding (7.0) and field-goal percentage (.588).
He scored in double figures 27 times and had four double-doubles. Williams was also named to the Sporting News’ five-man national all-freshman team Monday. Not bad for a kid playing out of position, eh?
Wise, a second-team all league pick last season, averaged 14.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists.
Others on the all Pac-10 team:
ASU guard Ty Abbott
Cal guard Patrick Christopher
Stanford forward Landry Fields
Washington forward Quincy Pondexter
UCLA guard Michael Roll
Washington guard Isaiah Thomas
Washington State forward Klay Thompson.
Oregon State guard Seth Tarver was named the Pac-10's top defensive player and USC center Nikola Vucevic was voted its most improved player.
