Where I Come From: Expectations for the 2010 Season

This post is sponsored by EA Sports NCAA Football 2011.

Thanks to EA Sports for sponsoring this last week's worth of posts.   Football season is gearing up and expectations for the 2011 football season are high after the Cats have put together two excellent seasons.   The Cats bring back plenty of returning starters on offense and defense.

Star-divide

2010 SCHEDULE

9/03 @ Toledo ESPN360.com 8:00 PM
9/11 Citadel TBA
9/18 Iowa 10:30 PM
9/25 California TBA
10/09 Oregon State TBA
10/16 @ Washington State TBA
10/23 Washington TBA
10/30 @ UCLA TBA
11/06 @ Stanford TBA
11/13 USC 8:00 PM
11/26 @ Oregon 7:00 PM
12/02 Arizona State ESPN360.com

8:00 PM

The Cats should have no problem with Toledo and Citadel to begin the season.  After that, the pivotal game of the season comes to town when Iowa visits Tucson on September 18, 2010.  Circle this date on your calendar.  Last year, the Cats were bullied around the field by the Hawkeyes and Nick Foles solidified himself as the starter for the Wildcats.  This year, the Cats will be ready as their season only ramped up after the Iowa loss last year and will be waiting for the Hawkeyes to come back to town.

The Cats get Cal and Oregon State at home, then play at Washington State followed up by Washington at home.  Look for the Cats to take out Cal but probably fall to Oregon State.  I think that Arizona will take out Washington State and have a hell of a game at home against Washington and Jake Locker.  UCLA in Southern California on 10-30 will always be a challenge and the Cats should breeze past Stanford on November 6.  USC shouldn't be much of a factor this year after the sanctions.  Unfortunately, I think that Arizona will suffer a loss playing at Oregon even though Oregon lost their starting QB Masoli after they kicked his dumbass off the team

Arizona State at home. December 2.  Arizona win.

Season Prediction:  9-3

Best Scenario: 10-2.  Beat Iowa in September. Beat Washington in Tucson. Lose to Oregon and Oregon State.

What are your thoughts on the season?

Games to Watch

Even with everything USC has gone through, I wouldn’t discount them just yet. I’m curious how the players respond to the NCAA sanctions on the field. Does it break their morale and give them less to play for, or does it make them play harder to make a statement?

Stanford always gives me ulcers. In the last few years, the Cardinal have pulled out several wins against the Wildcats. They lost Toby Gerhardt to the NFL but Andrew Luck wants to go pro one day, too.

Oregon and Oregon State are tough games. A Masoli-less Oregon at Autzen is still a formidable foe, and Oregon State’s offense will be just as potent, if not more, than last season.

The game against Iowa is a statement game not just for Arizona but for the Pac-10 against the Big Ten. Truth is we got creamed in the bowl season that left much of the Pac-10 teams in the wake of its destruction.

Stanford is always tough but I don't think

they can withstand our air attack. Hope Dean is back by then!

Dean's Gone

He transferred. No way he is coming back.

I agree the Stanford game is gonna be tough. But it’s all up to our LBs. If they are solid, we should win.

I’m going to say 11-1 loss to OSU

Winning may not be everything, but losing has little to recommend it.

why would we lose to oregon state when we beat them in their house and now they dont have a quaterback. plus stanford is not gonna be a breeze i agree with 9-3 but we arent going to lose at home unless its USC

just think we will lose 1 game and have a feeling it will be that 1

Winning may not be everything, but losing has little to recommend it.

Undefeated?

There isn’t a game on the schedule that Arizona couldn’t win, but there are a few teams in the Pac-10 that may surprise. WildcatFight is exactly right: the LB corp determines whether Arizona goes 12-0 or 8-5 (again).
