Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

Penetrating the low post

I haven't played team ball in many years but I still know how it is suppose to be played.  I have a second cousin that plays on the Arizona Wildcats and I see that he could make his presence known a lot more in the low post.  Arizona has a nice and good team but they could be better if the coaching staff would scream at the players about how they need to penetrate towards the basket and stop being scared!  They would receive more fouls and get to the free throw line more.  But oh no!  They wait until they get down and want to play with urgency.  This is simple basketball!  Now I see if they continue to play like they are scare by shooting from the perimeter, they won't make it past the first round of the final four.  Ok!  Holla at me if you need some more old school coaching help.   AND MOVE TO THE BASKET!

I agree with you that the lack of penetration from the perimeter has really hurt the Cats this season. Im not really sure why it is the case, as both Momo and Mayes should have a quick enough 1st step to get inside the arc, even against the zone. I have said all along, as have you, that if they can do this efficiently and consistently, it will open up shots for teammates whether it be down low for Williams/Perry, or back on the perimeter to our shooters.
This is definitely something to watch moving forward, as I dont see us winning some close games without this.

the reason they don't do it

is because while they both can get by their defender, they lack both the ability to finish and make good decisions with the ball, which either results in a bad shot [with the pg under the basket] or a turnover. That is not what you want to happen.
