Williams Declares?

Well according to this "report", Derrick Williams is going to declare for the 2011 Draft. What I found interesting about this article is how they claim to have sources with this information, yet later in the article, state that they know Williams has made no comments and has been very hush-hush. They even state they did not talk to him.

I have my doubts that this "article" has any source, or any validity. These people need to go take a class in journalism or something. Geez.

Anyway, I am going to flat out say it - I HAVE NO SOURCE. Yet, I will predict with certainty that Williams does declare. He might as well come out and say it. It is inevitable. Nobody passes up being the number 1 pick [or even top 5]. Just doesn't happen.

A shining example

Tim Duncan not only stayed for his junior year but his senior year as well. He has had an admirable NBA career.

If he wasn't thinking about it

Williams would’ve already declared. Honestly, he’s the type of kid who is going to take the time to make a decision that’s best for him. I don’t think he can go wrong either way, it’s just a matter if he wants to hold off and risk dropping in the draft, because it’s hard to say he’ll go much higher than he would this year.

And yeah, no idea why people are reporting stuff like this. The risk of them being wrong is 100X worse than the kudos they’d get (unwarrented kudos at that) of being “the first” to break a story.

well if you're speculating

Andrew Luck just did the unthinkable over at Stanford. Also of note, if Williams is at all connected to the Wildcat pipeline to the pros, then he most assuredly knows about the real possibility of a NBA lockout affecting the possible NBA season next year. It’s been openly speculated at places like ESPN amongst its staff that there is little likelihood of the season starting on time due to the length of the season itself and the current labor issues. No clue as to when those guys ecen get to the bargaining table and they are even staring in the face of possible league contraction. Those kinds of issues are rarely settled quickly.

Then you have to ask yourself, should I declare when its unsure if they are even playing next year? Do I have enough faith in my game and with the prospect of improving my defense and adding additional post moves in such a fashion as to not hurt my draft position next year? Look at who is already declaring this year? Who will be left to challenge me? Could I win a national championship at Arizona if I stay another year? What does Mom think?

I’m not saying that Williams is staying or leaving, I’m just saying that while most of us would take the money and run, not everyone is built the same way and its not as if there isn’t a valid argument to be made for staying.

I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused....
