A review of the Arizona vs Clemson game, and player grades
I don't know about you, but that felt like the first real road game of the year. No offense to Texas Tech, but going to an ACC school and playing on their home court is always challenging, especially when you have to travel cross country to do. This game was really 3 separate games in one. We started off strong, then disappeared, then finished strong. The real positive I will take away from this game is after our players faced true adversity, and went behind in a hostile environment, they came back and finished strong. As far as the team goes, our offensive stats were poor again, but at least we limited ourselves to only 11 turnovers. Now lets jump into the player grades.
Solomon Hill: D Hill had 7 points and 10 rebounds, and you would assume I would give him at least a C for those rebounds. However, when you shoot 2-16 to get those 7 points, you should be happy I stuck with just a D.
Brandon Ashley: C I might be asking to much of Ashley, but 9 points and 6 rebounds just seems very average for what we know he can do. He didn't really leave much of an impact in the game.
Kaleb Tarczewski: C We tried to establish Kaleb early, but we just didn't get enough production down low to really hurt Clemson. He shot 3-7, and 0-2 from the line. One thing Kaleb needs to work on is when he grabs an offensive rebound, stop taking a dribble if you can go right back up. All those small guards will strip the ball every time.
Mark Lyons: A Lets be honest, we won the game thanks to Lyons late push for our team. He really showed his experience today, and his toughness. We will need that when the tournament comes at the end of the season. His final stat line was 20 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds. Just an all around nice game for Lyons.
Nick Johnson: B Nick has really started to turn the corner, and is turning into a very good college player. Once again he filled up the stat line with 13 points, 5 steals, 1 assist, and 5 rebounds. Only 4-9 shooting is why he gets a B.
Kevin Parrom: C Kevin's numbers aren't anything to be impressed by, but he brought energy and some passion. Those were two things we needed badly.
Jordin Mayes: B- Mayes only played 10 minutes, but he came in and played some hard defense and didn't make any big mistakes. He finished with 3 points on a made 3 point shot. Plus his 2 steals helped our defense.
Grant Jerrett: D I really am expecting more out of Grant. He played 15 minutes and went 1-6 and had only 4 points. He is known as a spot up shooting big man, and if that will be his calling card he needs to make those shots.
