Each week, RichRod and the coaching staff will announce players of the week on offense, defense and special teams for both the game, and the practice squad.
So, without further ado, here they are:
Offensive Player of the Week: Daniel Jenkins
Jenkins had 12 carries and 139 yards rushing on Friday, including the 91-yarder down the sideline. He also led the team with three receptions, compiling 13 receiving yards, including the 11-yard catch that opened the scoring for the Wildcats.
Defensive Player of the Week: Tra'Mayne Bondurant
Bondurant had two picks, and almost a third. His 23 yard interception return for a TD opened the second half for Arizona, and set the tone for the rest of the game. He also had four solo tackles (one for loss), and three assists.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Shane Wilson
Obviously the actual field goal kicking and punting did not go well, so cover man Shane Wilson earns the nod this week. He picked up one solo tackle on the night. It came on the kickoff after the touchdown pass to Jenkins.
And according to Matt Dudek, this is Shane Wilson's prize:
Scout team Players of the Week:
Offense: DaVonte' Neal
Defense: Sir Thomas Jackson
Special Teams: Shane Wilson
Hard Edge Player of the Week: Scooby Wright
Wright had a very impressive debut in an Arizona uniform. The true freshman racked up six total tackles, including one for loss. His six tackles were just one off the team lead shared by Jake Fischer and Bondurant. Not bad. He also almost had a safety, but Zach Bauman just slipped out of his hands right at the goal line.
