Arizona vs. Utah: Utes pick up first Pac-12 win thanks to grand slam in 8th

Michael Hoard hit his first career home run in a 7-3 loss to Utah Friday - Jason Bartel

Just when you think baseball is at rock bottom, it gets worse

The baseball season for the Arizona Wildcats got even worse Friday afternoon with a 7-3 loss to the Utah Utes.

Utah scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth, including a grand slam for first baseman TJ Bennett.  The grand slam was the Utes' first home run as a team this season.

It came off of James Farris, who coach Andy Lopez kept out their in the 8th despite struggling with command early in the inning.

After an intentional walk to load the bases, I thought for sure Tyler Parmenter was on his way in to face Bennett, but no such luck.

On the offensive side of things, just five hits for the Wildcat bats, including two from Scott Kingery.  Michael Hoard picked up a home run, the first of his career, in the 7th to give Arizona a 3-2 lead.

But rock bottom seems to keep getting lower and lower for this team.  2-8 in Pac-12 play now, and a loss, on a Friday of all days, to the worst team in the conference.

Or is Arizona now the worst team in the conference?  It's close.
