The Los Angeles Times reports that Mater Dei High School swingman Stanley Johnson will pick the Arizona Wildcats over the USC Trojans and Kentucky Wildcats when he announces his college decision Friday. The five-star prospect in the 2014 class is ranked by ESPN as the ninth best prospect in his class and is widely regarded as a game-changing type of contributor off the bat.
Originally expected to choose his college choice in the spring, Johnson then moved his announcement date up to Friday, where he'll formally make his decision on ESPNU.
At 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds, Johnson is a fantastic all-around offensive talent, and could be the ying to Rondae Hollis-Jefferson's yang next season. He's best known, as former ESPN recruiting analyst Dave Telep described, as a "fox-hole guy."
A commitment by Johnson will mean a lot with the expected departure of Aaron Gordon to the NBA after this 2013-14 season. Within the 2014 class, it might have a lot to do with what fellow small forward Justise Winslow, another top-15 recruit, decides to do regarding the Wildcats.
