Headed to Vegas— Mark moog Lyons (@OnlyMoog) July 9, 2013
The former UA point guard and Xavier transfer will play for the Toronto Raptors in the Las Vegas Summer League. Unfortunately, it's to-be-determined whether he'll get a fair shot to prove that he's not the trigger-happy combo guard that he was for Sean Miller's Wildcats.
A quick glance on the roster shows free agent signing Julyan Stone as the likely starting point guard. Because Stone was signed on to compete for the Raptors' backup spot, it's likely the team will give him experience at the point guard position to learn how to run the offense despite being 6-foot-7.
That means Lyons will fight for backup time along with former Wisconsin Badger Jordan Taylor -- who by playing for Bo Ryan probably is the opposite of Lyons in regards to shot selection -- Coppin State product and Euroleague pro Tywain McKee and another European vet in Ricky Harris.
In short, the odds of Lyons getting a real shot don't look good. But I suppose unlike Parrom, at least he has a shot.
Other former Wildcat gets shot with Blazers
Former Arizona point guard Momo Jones was first thought to be headed to play with the Boston Celtics' summer league squad. That didn't happen and instead Jones received an invite to work out for a spot with the Portland Trail Blazers. It was unclear if he has made the team as of Tuesday.
Josiah Turner, Jones' replacement in 2011-12, has yet to be named to a summer league squad.
