Wildcat Quick Hits
Good afternoon, Cats fans. Here are a few pieces of Arizona news to get you through this June 21, 2010. And, no, there has been no division alignment news yet.
Only 74 days until Toledo.
Stoops and Co. picked up a verbal committment from 4-star middle linebacker, Rob Hankins, of Dallas, Texas. Hankins is the #9 nationally rated middle linebacker, according to Rivals.com.
Cornerback Trevin Wade has been named to the Nagurski Watch list for the 2010 football season. Wade is one of only nine Pac-10 players on the list.
BREAKING: Utah officially in the Pac; commence division alignment war
The Pac-10 has announced that Utah will be the 12th member of the Pac-10, Bruce Pascoe of the Arizona Daily Star, reports.
Now, the division alignment debate begins.
Everyone will be gunning to be included in the SoCal division, while I'm sure everyone would like to avoid the Utah/Colorado side. Utah has a recent history of busting major BCS programs, and Colorado, well Colorado just has not been very good lately.
This move paves the way for a Pac-10 television network ($$$) and a conference championship game ($$$). But, this is the NCAA, and everything is about the athletes and the academics, right? Right.
All in all, this seems to be a good move for the Pac-10, after being spurned by Texas/Big 12 South. The new alignment will allow the Pac-10 to compete with the Big Ten and SEC on the field and in the bank accounts. The latter of which, the Pac-10 has failed at miserably as of late.
BREAKING: Utah move to Pac-10 "imminent" [Updated]
Utah will become the Pac-10's 12th member this week, according to an ESPN.com story.
Mountain West Conference commissioner Craig Thompson, interviewed Tuesday, would only say that he has been in contact with the Pac-10 regarding Utah.
"I did state yesterday morning that I had not spoken to [Pac-10 commissioner] Larry Scott," Thompson said during a break at the Collegiate Commissioners Association meetings. "Twenty-four hours is a long timeframe."
More after the jump.
The Pac-10 Has 11 Teams: What's Next?
So, Texas and the other 4 Big XII schools are out. The Big Ten has 11 teams. The Big XII has 10 teams and the Pac-10 has 11 teams. Go figure. So, what's next for the Pac? Some think there is a conspiracy theory. Others just think that Texas just likes money. Duh.
The sexy pick right now is Utah. The Utes would be an incredible addition to the Pac and would balance out the addition of Colorado with another school to even us out at 12. Also, Utah's program has risen to a national powerhouse and is a force to be reckoned with. There is word out already that Utah has already informed the Mountain West Conference that it would leave the league.
(Pac-10 with 11 teams that is)
BREAKING NEWS: Pac-10 Expansion Stalled
Reports are rolling in now that Texas and the rest of the Big XII, sans Nebraska and Colorado, will keep the Big XII alive and well in a 10 league team. Who is the Pac-10 going to round out with now?
Straight from Larry Scott's mouth

The Lombardi Award watch list, announced Tuesday, features three Wildcats: Rob Gronkowski, Brooks Reed, and Earl Mitchell.

Arizona has had two players named as finalists for the award. In 1993, Rob Waldrop, and Teddy Bruschi the following year in 1994.

Breaking News: Nic Grigsby Hurt
From Star writer, Ryan Finley, Nic Grigsby left practice Friday morning on crutches with an injury to his left ankle. The severity of Grigsby's injury is unknown.
First, this is day two of training camp. Let's not get nuts here. The season is still 29 days away. Hopefully, this is just a sprain. But, with that said, a serious Grigsby injury will put even more pressure on whichever quarterback takes snaps on September 5. As we have stated here before, Keola Antolin is more than a capable backup (525 yards and 10 TDs in 2008), but Nic Grigsby he is not.
Get healthy Nic.
