Wildcats lineup smacks around Utah Valley

I even said to them, 'Grab a guy.' Like you're in the gym, just say, 'Hey will you play one-on-one against me?' And I find a lot of our players are doing that...I think for girls it's just not having that fear, taking initiative, and just jumping right in and playing. Why wouldn't you want to be in the gym playing? That's one thing I can't understand: if you're gonna be a basketball player, why not get in the gym and play?

University of San Francisco coach Jennifer Azzi commenting on the development of women's basketball players.

Five Preseason Questions: What makes Azzi a 'natural' coach? How will that help her at USF?

USF women's basketball coach Jennifer Azzi is a basketball legend in the Bay Area - she led Stanford to a national championship, won gold in the Olympics, and was a founding member of the ABL's San Jose Lasers before playing in the WNBA. So as she begins her coaching career for a struggling program, how might all that experience help her?

Boggs Shines In Exhibition As Dons Roll 61-34

Some initial thoughts: Granted there's little you can take away from an exhibition game, but given that USF physically outmatched Sonoma State their reliance on perimeter play stood out - the Dons look to be a perimeter oriented team, shooting 13 first half threes. And their strength ls definitely in their backcourt with junior Rheina Ale and Colorado transfer senior Kelly Jo Mullaney. Although Mullaney didn't have an outstanding game (5 points on 2-5 shooting), Colorado's leading scorer from last season was poised running a new offense for a new coach and patient in finding shots with the teams offense while trying to set up others. Ale and Mullaney are likely going to be the keys to this team competing in the WCC, but it remains to be seen if the team can get the same looks on the perimeter that they got last night. Jennifer Azzi Makes A Strong First Impression On San Francisco Players

For most coaches, exhibition games are just a chance to play somebody different, most meaningful to the extent that they serve as something of a dress rehearsal. For first-year University of San Francisco coach Jennifer Azzi, there was a little added significance to the Dons 61-34 home win against Sonoma State University Friday night.
