Quick Hits August 13, 2009

Apologies for the late post.  Plenty of quick hits to keep you busy today though.  23 days until kickoff Wildcats fans.

Arizona starts the first of three days of practice today at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.  This is the second year in a row that the Cats have taken camp on the road to Fort Huachuca.  Running back Greg Nwoko has earned a nickname you may have heard before...the Nigerian Nightmare.  Still no word on the who will start at quarterback.  Shocker.

From Star reporters Becky Pallack and Ryan Finley, the Pride of Arizona marching band will be featuring Aerosmith songs this season.

Bummer for the Holiday Bowl.  The Alamo Bowl and the Pac-10 are reportedly close to a deal to make the Alamo Bowl the destination for the #2 Pac-10 team, knocking the Holiday Bowl down to the #3 team, and the Sun Bowl to the #4 team in the Pac.  I think the Holiday Bowl is one of the best games of the bowl season every year. Let's move the Holiday Bowl to a post-January 1 date for the #2 Pac-10 team and bump the Alamo Bowl to #3.

The Arizona Wildcats Sports Network has reached agreements to expand its network.  AWSN has also locked up all its on-air talent for the upcoming football and basketball seasons.

Chase Budinger signed a two-year guaranteed contract with the NBA's Houston Rockets.  Good for him.  Second round picks rarelyreceive guaranteed contracts anymore from NBA teams.  Essentially, dropping to the second round (like Budinger) is an NBA death knell.  Congratulations to Chase on playing great in the Summer League and earning a guaranteed contract.  With all that said, if only you would have stayed for your senior season...

Jon Wilner at the San Jose Mercury News ranks the softest schedules in the Pac-10.  Arizona comes in at #5, putting them right about the middle.
