Bowl Game Picks: Day 3

Well, yesterday went pretty good. Unless you're a Southern Miss. fan, that is.  Louisville came out victorious in a surprisingly good game, and my record moved up to 3-1.  And while that game was good, I'm much more excited for the Las Vegas Bowl.

MAACO Bowl Las Vegas- Utah Utes vs. Boise St. Broncos

What  a difference a year makes.  Last year, the playoff debate was raging.  This year, not so much.  Oh, It'll always be there.  But there is so little traction right now.  Two of the three major non-AQ teams have elected to join the big, bad BCS conferences.  With Utah moving to the Pac-12, TCU moving to the Big East, and rumors beginning to swirl of a Big 12 invite for Boise, there doesn't figure to be any BCS-busting in the near future.

Just the way I like it.  Utah and TCU have, with thier move to BCS conferences, announced that they are ready to play the big boys week in and week out.  Boise St. would be wise to do the same.  Instead of playing a cupcake schedule with perhaps three tough games all year, join an AQ conference and face five to six each season, minimum.  Prove that you are really elite, by performing at that level on a regular basis, against good competition.

I'm rooting for Boise St. to join the Big 12.  One can only hope the poor academic standards at Boise St. that prevented them from getting a Pac-10 invite won't keep them out of the Big 12.  I'd be really interested to see how the Broncos performed against Texas and Oklahoma.  Only time will tell if Boise St. will ever be in a BCS conference.  The Las Vegas Bowl, however, is upon us.

I should be listing all of the reasons that Utah will win this one.  They're a future Pac-12 team, and a sentimental favorite for me.  Unfortunately, I just don't see them winning this game.  The Boise St. offense is just too good, and the defense too solid for me to pick Utah.  Let's be clear, I want Utah to win.  I'll be cheering for the upset, and a Utes victory.  But I'm picking the Boise St. Broncos to win this one, 24-38.

So let's go Utes, prove me wrong!  Fight like heck, and enter into the Pac-12 with a bang!
