USC coach Kevin O'Neill rumored to be in altercation

Following his victory against the California Golden Bears Thursday, USC Trojan head coach Kevin O'Neill and his wife may have been involved in an altercation with a fan. The USC athletic department released a statement early Friday morning.

Below is the brief released by Trojan athletic director Pat Haden:

"We have received some information tonight about an incident involving coach Kevin O'Neill, his wife and a fan from another school that occurred following our men's basketball game today.

"We are looking into this and gathering facts. We will determine what appropriate action is necessary."

O'Neill, formerly the interim head coach at Arizona, and his team are scheduled to face the Wildcats at 6 p.m. Pacific Time Friday.

Though TV station KVOA and website PointGuardU.com reported the incident, neither cited any sources.

But the fact that the athletic department released a statement means something could be up. That, or they're just trying to put out any flames that the rumor mill could have created.

Either way, it's probably not a good distraction for the Trojans. Today, they overcame an 11-3 deficit with 11:11 to play in the first half and solidly defeated the Bears 70-56 to advance to the Pac-10 Conference semi-final round.
