Looking at the score this is exactly what our young team needed in its first road game. We dominated Texas Tech both inside and out. Some of the positives would include shooting 56.6% from the floor and 17-21 from the free throw line. We also out rebounded Texas Tech by 15. We will win many games if we keep up production like this. For those of you that watched the game yesterday, everything may not be as awesome as the box score will lead you to believe. My biggest issues with our performance were the amount of turnovers, 15 to be exact, and some of the poor decisions that our players were making.
On the bright side, Miller really showed how impressive of a coach he is. He saw a weakness in their interior and attacked it consistently all night. This is also one of the first games that I have seen our team really establish its low post. The ability to go inside and out will be a huge factor for our team throughout the year.
In the end a win is a win, so lets jump to the player grades.
Mark Lyons: C+ Mark started off extremely hot, and it seemed like it would be a huge game for him. However, fouls and poor ball handling ended up slowing him down. He finished with 14 points on 4-7 shooting. The negative is the fact that he ended with 0 assists and 4 turnovers. We need our PG to take care of the ball and distribute it as well.
Nick Johnson: A Nick had another great game. He shot 7-11 for a total of 18 points. Like usual he filled up the rest of the stats with 2 steals 1 assist and 5 rebounds. Adding in the fact he had 0 turnovers, its fair to say Nick was one of the players of the game.
Brandon Ashley: B All our big men had a fairly good game yesterday. I would like to see more than 3 rebounds out of Brandon though. On the bright side he was very efficient and went 4-5 from the field and 4-6 from the free through line for a total of 12 points.
Kaleb Tarczewski: B+ Kaleb really took advantage of his size and gathered in 13 rebounds. To go along with those rebounds he went 3-3 for 6 points.
Solomon Hill: A Solomon was our rock like usual. Early in the game whenever we needed a play made, Solomon would come up with it. He finished with 14 points shooting 4-6 from the field, 2-3 from behind the 3pt arc, and 4-6 from the field. He also filled up the rest of his stats with 3 steals, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds.
Kevin Parrom: B Kevin used his length and overall natural ability to help us out in this game. He scored 6 points and had 6 rebounds. The negative for Kevin is going 0-2 from behind the 3pt arc, and his early foul trouble.
Jordin Mayes: D I am having a hard time with Jordin at the moment. If his shot is not falling he really gives us very little on the court. He maybe one of the worst at handling the ball under pressure, and seemed rattled all game. He finished with 2 points in 21 minutes, shooting 1-6 from the floor and 0-4 from behind the arc.
Grant Jerrett: B+ Miller did a good job of using our bigs down low, and this was one of the first times I've really seen Grant down low doing damage. They struggled against him down low as he scored 11 points on 3-5 shooting and shot an impressive 4-4 from the free throw line.
Everyone else gets an INC for not enough time on the court to really give a good grade to.
