Miami vs Arizona:Player Grades

A quick recap and player grades for the Miami vs Arizona basketball game

Miami certain came out strong in the first half, but once the Wildcats got a ten point lead they never really let Miami climb their way back in. A very good trend we are starting to see with Arizona is a very energetic and aggressive defense, which is causing problems for every team we play. I keep hearing the stat about us allowing a better 3pt % this year, but personally that does not bother me. It actually makes plenty of sense, since the last two years we consistently were a smaller team who could guard the outside much easier. However, we will make it even harder for teams to score down low, which is a very fair trade off. Turnovers were still a bit high for us this game, but I will live with it for another day, and just blame some of our more youthful players. Now time for some player grades.

Mark Lyons: B+ Lyons really took control at part of this game. He showed his deep shooting ability going 3-7 from behind the arc, and I mean way behind the arc. Lyons finished with 19 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds. Plus 3 turnovers from Lyons, which is actually a pretty good number for him.

Solomon Hill: B It feels like Hill did a lot more than his stats will show. He finished with only 8 points, 2 steals, 2 assists, and 3 rebounds. However, it seems like we consistently put the ball into his to settle our offense down.

Nick Johnson: B- Mr. Do everything, once again was impressive. He really balances out Lyons well. Nick finished with 12 points 1 assists and 5 rebounds. Surprisingly enough he had no steals tonight, and 4 turnovers which is a bit too much.

Kaleb Tarczewski: A Tarc really did what was needed of him today. Lots of followup dunks, and a ton of rebounds from the big men. He finished with 8 points and 13 rebounds. We need this sort of performance out of him every night.

Brandon Ashley: C Brandon was quite active out there today, but had no offense. Finishing 0-2 for 0 points is just a poor outing. Luckily he did help us with 7 rebounds.

Kevin Parrom: A- Kevin is a very important piece of this team. He came off the bench to give us 11 points on 4-8 shooting, including 2-3 from behind the arc, and 8 rebounds.

Grant Jerrett: C+ He had two completely different halves. In the first half he seemed to do a very good job of spreading the floor and putting in 5 points. The second half I don't remember anything he actually did.

Jordin Mayes: C Another average game for Jordin. He didn't kill us, but he didn't do a lot for us either. But at least he hit an open 3 pointer in this game. That's what we will need from him off the bench.

Angelo Chol: C- Everytime Angelo gets the ball I swear he just wants to go 1 on 1 to the bucket. If hes going to do that he needs to work on his post moves, and develop a softer touch around the rim. Luckily he hit 3-4 from the free throw line or else he would have been shut out today. I do still like his energy though.
