A recap and player grades for the USM vs Arizona basketball game

Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

I will be honest, I have been putting off this recap the entire day. That game was painful to watch. I can't tell whether the other team did something to stop us, or if we stopped ourselves. It felt like a hangover after the Texas Tech game. Lets first look at the team negatives: 6-20 from the 3pt line, 45.2% from the field, and maybe worst of all 27 turnovers. Also, would someone please tell me how we barely out rebounded a team who were that much shorter than ours? 16 assists on 19 FG's was probably the best part of the game.

Lets just get right into player grades

Solomon Hill: C- We really needed him this game, and in 37 minutes he only went 3-7 from the field for 9 points. On the bright side he did shoot 3-5 from behind the arc.

Brandon Ashley: D- In 18 minutes Ashley did pretty much nothing. 1 point, 1 steal, 1 assist, and 2 rebounds. I really can't find anything positive about his game yesterday.

Kaleb Tarczewski: D+ His stat line actually looks decent. He got 7 points and 7 rebounds. However, anytime you consistently get out rebounded by guys 6 inches shorter than you, you are going to get a bad grade in my book.

Mark Lyons: F What a horrible game from Mark. 4 points on 0-7 shooting. If your not going to rack up the assists than you better rack up the points.

Nick Johnson: A- Nick really is the reason we managed to win that game. He had a career high with 23 points, 4 steals, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds. The only reason he got the - is from his 6 turnovers.

Kevin Parrom: B Kevin had a very solid game off the bench of us. He managed to get 14 points on 5-9 shooting, and racked up 8 rebounds for us when we needed someone to get rebounds.

Jordin Mayes: C Jordin came in and did what we needed. He didn't score a ton of points but he did managed to get to the line and played some decent defense.

Lets hope the guys can pick up the pace a bit in the future, and please not ever play that way again.
