Arizona Wildcats spring game live

Tucson, Ariz. -- Live scrimmage updates in Rich Rodriguez's first offseason with the Arizona Wildcats.

2:12 p.m. -- This offense will end up looking a bit similar to the Stoops-era offense in that it's using quick passes to the outside to loosen up the middle of defenses. That's opened up a couple of holes for the running backs and also some over-the-middle passes to receivers and one to tight end Michael Cooper

That said, the defensive line and linebackers have gotten pressure on the quarterbacks.

2:05 p.m. -- Looks like the offense is in a groove now. Morrison beats CB Douglas Samuels down the sideline for a TD, then Kylan Butler punches it in the next series. Turning point today? RichRod headset slam!

1:56 p.m. -- Just as I tell our Kyle Kensing that the interior defense has been solid, a hole opens up and Daniel Jenkins finds it, then bounces to the outside for a 25-yard touchdown run. Hard to say who's a go-to receiver in this group. Austin Hill's injury hurts, as does Terrence Miller sitting out. Dan Buckner hasn't done much, but Tyler Slavin, while not that explosive, has been solid.

1:49 p.m. -- Matt Scott leads the first-team offense 98 yards for a score, getting the touchdown by finding Tyler Slavin in between two defenders from about five yards out.

1:42 p.m. -- Taimi Tutogi takes a 35-yard handoff. Big fella was rumbling.

1:36 p.m. -- Two bad snaps in a row, and Rich Rodriguez's headsets meets the dirt.

1:34 p.m. -- Is it a demotion? Morrison moves to receiver on first team after he turns it over twice. Drops a sorta high pass from Scott. And by the way, backup running back Daniel Jenkins is playing today; he was supposed to be sitting out for precautionary reasons.

1:26 p.m. -- After a 4-and-out, the Wildcats turn the ball over with a failed handoff. That's four wins out of four opportunities for the defense, though the offense is doing itself no favors. And as I type that, walk-on Johnny Jackson catches a 45-yard pass from Matt Scott.

1:16 p.m. -- After a summer where the offense dominated, the defense got two turnovers on the offense in the first two series. Ka'Deem Carey's first carry resulted in a fumble, and the second-team offense was being run by quarterback Richard Morrison, who also turned the ball over by throwing a pick to Marquis Flowers.

1:12 p.m. -- The Arizona kickers started off the spring game with kicking reps. Five kickers saw at least a kick with John Bonano and Youngstown State looking the most competent. If anything, the exercise showed that Arizona has options to look toward, unlike last season.
