Former Arizona Wildcats guard Josiah Turnerlooks like he could be headed to SMU to be coached by legendary head coach Larry Brown, who most recently was coaching the Charlotte Bobcats this past NBA season. After rumors of Turner checking out St. John's, CBSSports' Jeff Goodman said the fit just might be the best for Turner, who was arrested under suspicions of a DUI this past week. After all, Brown has many years of college and NBA coaching experience in his back pocket; maybe he'll get Turner's head on straight.
Zack Rosenblatt of the Daily Wildcat caught up with former UA receivers coach Dave Nichol, who talked about his new gig at East Carolina and the Mike Stoops era. The most interesting tidbits came when Nichol reassured us that Stoops' comments about Arizona's poor facilities are pretty true; Nichol said UA had less than half of the Dallas-area high schools he's coached at.
The Arizona baseball team swept East Tennessee State this weekend in high-scoring fashion. The scores? 24-7, 6-4 and 21-6. Friday's win was the 2,600 in school history, making the Wildcats just the eighth team in college baseball to reach that mark, according to the Daily Wildcat.
EveryDayShouldBeSaturday's running tally of the Fulmer Cup -- or which teams in college football are winning in the game of being charged by the law -- includes Arizona for the brawl a month or so ago that involved a number of team members that included Jourdon Grandon, Fabbians Ebbele, Eric Bender and Jared Tevis. The key there is that it's only the football team. Had basketball been included, the past few weeks would surely put the Wildcats in sole possession of the No. 2 ranking.
Sophomore track and field star Lawi Lalang keeps rolling. He set a school record in the 1,500 meter race with a time of 3:36.77, the best time in the nation by a collegiate runner in the event this season. He's so good, he should be illegal (thanks NFL Blitz 2000).
