Arizona baseball's perfect storm of a year heads to postseason play

Time: 8 p.m. PT

TV: ESPNU

The Arizona Wildcats baseball team throws out its first pitch tonight against the Missouri Tigers to open postseason play. But looking back on this season, there's much at stake tonight and beyond.

The Wildcats have a shot at reaching the College World Series this year; they've got a co-crown of the Pac-12 title, All-Americans, a conference player of the year and a conference coach of the year to show, along with a No. 1 seeding.

And as good as Andy Lopez has been throughout his collegiate coaching career -- from Arizona to Florida to Pepperdine -- the Wildcats have struggled to make it out of the first round of the postseason tournament.

Maybe it's the mystique of Hi Corbett, or maybe the Wildcats just didn't have the right pieces to the puzzle. Finally, Lopez has his dream team.

Arizona takes on Mizzou tonight at 8 p.m. at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, but for many reasons, it might be only the beginning of a long postseason rush to Omaha.

Friday, June 1 (Games televised on ESPNU)
Game 1 (4 p.m. MST): No. 3 Louisville vs. No. 2 New Mexico State
Game 2 (8 p.m. MST): No. 4 Missouri vs. No. 1 Arizona
