The Wildcats kept the train rolling on Saturday with another dominant pitching performance and timely hitting, taking down the Coppin State Eagles 14-1.

Through the first two games of this season-opening three game series, Arizona has outscored the Eagles 30-1, allowing just three hits total.

James Farris went 8 innings, allowing just two hits, both of them coming in the 4th. He also had 8 strikeouts, a single game career-high for him. Coach Andy Lopez said "We would have run him back out there but he was at 85 pitches...if it had been a quicker inning in the bottom of the 8th" he would have had a chance to get the complete game.

"I was feeling a little fatigued yeah, but I could have gone in the 9th inning....it was a good call from the coaching standpoint."

That bottom of the 8th saw Arizona's final 4 runs, their third 4-run inning of the day.

Seven Arizona starters had hits on Saturday, six had RBI. A total group effort on the offensive side with a lot of timely hitting.

"I'm excited for this team" said Riley Moore.

Moore went 2-2 with 3 BBs on the day.

"Last year I ended up striking out a lot because I was more defensive, but this year in the off-season I really worked on working the count, putting the ball in play and getting hits."

On catching Konner Wade and James Farris the last two days "We'll pitch and we'll go deep into games. That's the standard that should be set here... It's always a good time catching (Wade and Farris)".

Farris talked about changing from the Sunday to Saturday role "Sunday I would just wake up and come to the game. Now it's I wake up, sit around the house a little bit, watch some ESPN."

"My fastball location was working well for me today....also my curveball was moving really nice for me."

Tomorrow's game is at noon against Coppin State. Stephen Manthei will get the start for Arizona, his second career college start.

"I expect the same thing that came out of James Farris and Konner Wade" said catcher Riley Moore.

"He's probably more used to starting than relieving" said Coach Andy Lopez. Manthei was a starting pitcher in high school at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas.
