Six game losing streaks are never good.
Six game losing streaks to finish a season when you are on the edge of making the national tournament? Even worse.
No. 18 Arizona hockey team finds itself in this position after getting swept on their three day road trip to North Dakota, losing to Williston State College on Thursday, and to No. 3 Minot State on Friday and Saturday. Combine this with a dominating win by No. 19 Rutgers on Saturday, and the Wildcats find themselves very unsure about where they stand as far as making the ACHA National Tournament goes. The top 18 in the final rankings will make it, and Arizona may have shot themselves in the foot one too many times after tonight.
The tournament field will be revealed live via webcast starting at 7:45 p.m. AZ time on Wednesday, Feb. 13.
Saturday's game:
Arizona lost to Minot State 5-2. Both of Arizona's goals came on the power play, one from Ansel Ivens-Anderson, and one from captain and senior Brian Slugocki. Arizona had many power play opportunities throughout the game, but could only capitalize twice. Minot kept the pressure on Wildcat goalie Robert Schultz, getting 5 past him, two by the Beavers' Garett Ferguson.
Three Stars:
Here are tonights three stars as selected by the voice of your Beavers, Alex Pape! Third star - UA Captain Brian Slugocki. One goal tonight.
