After sweeping Utah over the Easter weekend, the Wildcats are in a much better place in the conference than they were a week ago.
The pitching staff looked good for the most part (except James Farris in Friday's game). The offense got some timely hitting, including getting two huge runs late in the Saturday game to complete the sweep.
Three Up:
1. Trent Gilbert: The sophomore second baseman went 5-for-13 on the weekend, with 3 runs scored and 6 RBI. One of those RBI was the game-winner Saturday when he drove in Brandon Dixon on an 8th inning single.
2. Tyler Crawford: In his first career weekend start on Saturday, the sophomore southpaw went 6 1/3 scoreless innings, giving up just 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5. A welcome sight for a team that is struggling to find a consistent third starter.
3. Joseph Maggi: The right fielder went 4-for-7 on the weekend, walked 3 times, scored 3 runs, and drove in 2.
Three Down:
1. James Farris: He struggled on Friday, going just 4 innings. To quote head coach Andy Lopez "Just didn't look good."
2. Kevin Newman: The freshman shortstop went just 1-for-12 on the weekend, and stranded 5 runners on base.
3. Jackson Willeford: He is just starting to see some playing time at DH, but he only went 1-for-11, with that hit being his first career college knock.
