As expected for a number of weeks now, 5-star forward Ivan Rabb has officially chosen to join Cuonzo Martin and the California Golden Bears.
While failing to land Rabb obviously hurts for the Arizona Wildcats, it's probably not a huge deal. It just means that Sean Miller will have to look elsewhere for that last piece to the roster.
One likely way they'll do it is through the graduate transfer market. We've already learned of three graduate transfers that Arizona is actively pursuing - Charlotte's Mike Thorne, Drexel's Damion Lee, and San Francisco's Mark Tollefsen (you can click on their names to find out more about them). It's also possible that there are others too. That being said, I would expect Sean Miller and Co. to land at least one of them, with Lee and Tollefsen being the most likely.
These graduate transfers shouldn't be overlooked. It's very possible that one of these soon-to-be fifth year players could contribute just as much, if not more, than what Rabb would've brought to the table.
Aside from the graduate transfer market, there is still another notable recruit that Sean Miller is going after: Stephen Zimmerman, the #10 high school player in ESPN's Top 100. Arizona is one of five schools on his list with the others being UNLV, Kentucky, UCLA, and Kansas. That being said, the overall feeling is that Zimmerman will likely be going elsewhere too, especially with the reported return of Kaleb Tarczewski.
All in all, the outlook for this upcoming Arizona basketball season is extremely bright. They have one of the best recruiting classes in the nation coming in, and if they are able to add a graduate transfer or two, and/or simply get Stanley Johnson back for another year, it's possible they could improve from last season.
As for Cal, there's no doubt that this addition will make them a much more dangerous team. They're still waiting for Tyrone Wallace to decide if he's going pro or not, and if he decides to come back for another year, the Golden Bears could emerge as a top team in the Pac-12. There's still a chance that they could land Jaylen Brown to pair with Rabb too. This is definitely a team to watch moving forward.
