The Wildcats offer the Tucson prospect

Majok Deng

Back in September, Salpointe Catholic’s Majok Deng told Josh Gershon of Scout “Arizona is my dream school and hopefully they will come by. I talked to one of their coaches last week. I know it’s still early and I would love to stay home but at this point I want to go out there and explore. Best case I want to stay home but if it’s not the best fit for me then I’ll leave. Arizona is home. I know Sean Miller is a great coach. If I go there, God willing, I’ll be home.”

Well, on Monday, Deng received his Arizona offer. According to Verbal Commits, Deng already has offers to ASU, Utah, GCU, and New Mexico among other places. He’s not ranked, but you can bet this will turn some heads in the recruiting service world. Deng recently had a big showing at the Visit Mesa Basketball Challenge, making the all-tournament team

- It’s also probably worth noting that Sean Miller’s sons play at Salpointe, and senior point guard Cameron Miller is looking to go back east to play college basketball

- The current basketball team moved up one spot in the two major polls, but many spots in ESPN’s power rankings

- USC center Khaliel Rodgers has decided he wants to be a grad transfer next year

- A Group of Five Playoff possibility has come up this week, but 2016 G5 champ (if you will) P.J. Fleck does not like that idea. Fleck and his Western Michigan Broncos held their own, but lost to Wisconsin in the Cotton Bowl

- Alabama got rid of Lane Kiffin before the National Championship Game, which means Steve Sarkisian will be the Tide’s offensive coordinator against Clemson. Last time we saw Sark, he was picking his nose and eating the boogers

- UCLA hired Jedd Fisch away from Michigan to become their new offensive coordinator. Our supervisor Luke thinks that’s a really bad idea

Other sports

- Alyssa Palomino and Danielle O’Toole are at Team USA tryouts

- Women’s basketball lost to Stanford 77-55

- A couple members of the men’s golf team were playing in a tournament to close out 2016

- Here are some things the guys at Tucson News Now want to see happen this year

- There was a homicide at Grant and Alvernon

- A man was shot in his car while driving on Aviation, then drove himself to Golf Links and Swan
