The University of Arizona community lost one of its own this week in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
Christiana Duarte, who graduated from Arizona in May, was one of the 59 people who lost their lives at a country music festival on Sunday night. Chrissy was missing on Monday, and then her family confirmed on Tuesday that she was one of the victims.
You can help the Duarte family by donating to the memorial fund here.
I met Chrissy last year while she was working for the Tucson Roadrunners. In our conversations, I discovered her brother Mikey played baseball at UC-Irvine. He’s now a prospect in the Chicago White Sox organization. Chrissy was at the festival with Mikey’s girlfriend Ariel Romero, who was shot in the jaw. You can also donate to the Romero family here.
Chrissy was set to embark on a career in sports after college by landing a gig with the LA Kings this year as a fan services associate. The Kings honored Chrissy by wearing this helmet sticker for their season opener on Thursday night.
All proceeds from the team’s 50/50 raffle on Thursday are being donated to the Las Vegas Victims’ Fund as well.
RIP Chrissy.
