The Arizona Wildcats women’s golf team will go for its third ever national championship Wednesday against No. 2-seeded Alabama at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, OK.
It’s been a wild ride for the No. 8-seeded Wildcats to get to this point. They pulled off some late heroics against Baylor to squeak into the quarterfinals where they stunned top-seeded UCLA before handling No. 5-seeded Stanford in the semis.
Alabama is an interesting matchup for Arizona. Wildcats head coach Laura Ianello was promoted to head coach by former athletic director Greg Byrne, who is now in charge at Alabama.
The Crimson Tide are trying to become the first non-Pac-12 school to win a women’s golf championship since 2014.
Alabama won its first, and only, women’s golf title back in 2012. Arizona has won two national championships (1996, 2000).
Here are the pairings, tee times, and broadcast info for Wednesday’s championship match-play:
Pairings and tee times
- Lauren Stephenson (ALA) vs. Yu-Sang Hou (ARIZ)— 12:25 p.m. PT
- Kristen Gillman (ALA) vs. Gigi Stoll (ARIZ) — 12:35 p.m. PT
- Cheyenne Knight (ALA) vs. Bianca Pagdanganan (ARIZ) — 12:45 p.m. PT
- Angelica Moresco (ALA) vs. Sandra Nordaas (ARIZ) — 12:55 p.m. PT
- Lakareber Abe (ALA) vs. Haley Moore (ARIZ) — 1:05 p.m. PT
Moore and Pagdanganan are considered Arizona’s best golfers. Stephenson, Gillman, and Knight are Alabama’s best.
Here’s some analysis on the pairings from Golfweek:
Hou will take on Alabama’s best player, Lauren Stephenson, in the afternoon’s opening match. Ianello felt good about how the final matchups went down. She figured Alabama would put its three first-team All-Americans out first again and wanted to make sure that Pagdanganan was somewhere in the first three slots. She’ll take on Cheyenne Knight in the third match.
