The latest issue of Sports Illustrated has a lot more Khalil Tate in it than just the cover story. He’s also on the receiving end of a shot fired by Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver.
In an article about Oliver, the massive junior who is very likely to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, he decided to call out the Arizona Wildcats quarterback when explaining his decision to declare for the draft way back in March:
“I don’t want to get (asked) after the game, ‘so now are you thinking about going?’” Oliver told SI’s Andy Staples. “I want it to be because I gave Khalil Tate a nightmare.”
Oliver and Houston host Tate and Arizona on Sept. 8. It will be a homecoming for new Wildcats coach Kevin Sumlin, who coached Houston from 2008-11 before leaving for Texas A&M. At A&M he offered Oliver and had the Houston native in for a few visits but couldn’t lure him away from home.
If Arizona fans don’t remember Oliver from last September’s 19-16 home loss to Houston—maybe because you blocked it out?—you can re-live his 11-tackle performance that also included a forced fumble and a blocked kick in the video below.
