MLB Draft 2014 Results: Cole Tucker selected 24th overall by Pittsburgh Pirates

A not-so-welcome surprise for Arizona fans

In arguably the most shocking move made in the first round of the MLB Draft, the Pittsburgh Pirates selected Arizona commit Cole Tucker with the 24th overall pick.

Tucker, who went to high school at Mountain Pointe in Phoenix, projected as the 84th overall prospect by Baseball America. The selection actually caught everyone on the MLB Network broadcast off-guard, as well as plenty of other people.

As a shortstop, Tucker is a switch-hitter, who is a better hitter from the left side. He was a member of the U18 U.S. National Team that won the gold medal last summer. His scouting reports actually make him sound exactly like Kevin Newman when he showed up at Arizona, with his "defense ahead of his offense."

Gotta think there's basically zero chance of Tucker coming to Tucson since he wouldn't get the starting job at short right away.
