Another Arizona Wildcat will earn his claws.

The Tampa Bay Rays announced on Twitter that the team will select the contract of Durham Bulls outfielder Johnny Field on Friday.

The former Wildcat will make his MLB debut in time for the Rays’ 2008 World Series rematch with the Philadelphia Phillies (who are led by former Wildcat Scott Kingery).

Johnny Field will reunite with former Arizona teammate Robert Refsnyder for the first time since winning the College World Series in 2012.

Field, 26, was drafted by the Rays in the fifth round of the 2013 MLB Draft after a very successful college career at Arizona. He and Baltimore Oriole outfielder Joey Rickard went from high school teammates in Las Vegas to college teammates in Arizona to professional teammates with the Montgomery Biscuits (Rays’ Double-A affiliate) in 2015.

That year, Field hit a career high 14 home runs and 66 RBI. He’s been a solid but not spectacular hitter but has been a big part in the Durham Bulls’ 2017 Triple-A national championship run. Field went 5-for-14 this year for the Bulls before the news of the call-up.

Field becomes the fourth member of Arizona’s 2012 College World Series championship team to make the big leagues. Robert Refsnyder was the first to make his big league debut in 2015 with the New York Yankees. The two will reunite as teammates in Tampa Bay.
