Arizona baseball rises to consensus top 10 team in latest rankings

For the first time this season, Arizona baseball is a consensus top 10 team.

The Wildcats saw their poll position rise in all five national rankings Monday after sweeping Utah last weekend to move to 30-11 and 15-6 in Pac-12 play, good for first place.

The highest ranking comes from Baseball America, which tabs Arizona at No. 7 in the country. Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game each have the Wildcats at No. 8. D1Baseball has the team at No. 9, while the USA Today Coaches Poll ranks them No. 10.

Arizona also moved one spot up in the RPI to No. 8.

All these rankings point to the Wildcats being in the hunt for an NCAA Tournament top eight national seed if they can maintain their level of play.

Arizona has a great chance to improve its resume this week with a Tuesday home meeting against Grand Canyon and a three-game weekend series at Stanford, who is ranked No. 16 nationally by D1Baseball.

The Wildcats are on a nine-game win streak ever since dropping the series opener at Washington State 21-2, which at the time was the team’s third consecutive loss.

One of those losses was a 5-4 extra inning defeat at GCU. Arizona will be plenty motivated to exact revenge on the Lopes Tuesday.

Arizona’s success is driven by an offense that leads the NCAA with a .333 batting average. Seven starting position players are batting .300 or better, led by Jacob Berry (.400), Brandon Boissiere (.399), and Kobe Kato (.382).
