To the victor go the spoils. And the chance to start the road to Omaha at home.

Arizona will host at least the regional round of the NCAA Tournament after being selected as one of 16 hosts on Sunday. The full 64-team tournament field will be revealed at 9 a.m. PT Monday, at which time the Wildcats will learn their seed and which three opponents they’ll host at Hi Corbett Field next weekend.

The UA (40-15) is in the NCAA tourney for the first time since 2017, doing so as the Pac-12’s automatic qualifier after winning the regular-season title. It was the program’s first outright conference title since 1989 and the first time it had a least a share of the crown since 2012, which was also the last time Arizona hosted postseason games on its way to winning the College World Series.

If Arizona earns one of the top eight seeds—it never has since the NCAA went to the seeding format in 1999—it will also have a chance to host the Super Regional round, which is June 11-14. D1Baseball.com has Arizona as a No. 5 seed, while Baseball America has the Wildcats as the No. 6 seed.

UA coach Jay Johnson said Saturday night, after his team’s 5-4 walkoff win over Dixie State in the regular-season finale, that there was “no question” Arizona would have a top-8 seed, with him projecting the Wildcats to end up between No. 4 and No. 6.

“Forty wins, this program has been to Omaha more times than it’s won 40 games in the regular season,” he said.

Arizona will be making its 40th NCAA appearance, tied for Cal State Fullerton for sixth-most in tournament history.
