Arizona’s second 10-game win streak of the season is over, but it took a lot longer for it to come to an end.

Stanford walked off the Wildcats 5-4 in 13 innings on Friday night at Sunken Diamond in Palo Alto, Calif. for their first loss since April 13.

Arizona (31-12, 15-7 Pac-12) scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 lead but only had one more hit after that. Kobe Kato singled with one out in the 13th and then stole second but he was stranded at third as the Wildcats left 11 runners on base.

Chase Silseth retired the first 11 batters he faced but ran into trouble in the fifth and sixth, allowing three runs (two earned) in 5.1 innings. He would be followed by five relievers, with Quinn Flanagan going the final 4-plus innings and picking up the loss.

Flanagan allowed only one baserunner over the first 3.2 innings but then walked the first two in the 13th. After a sacrifice bunt moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd, Brock Jones singled through the right side to end it.

Stanford (25-9, 11-5) forced extras by scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth when Kato couldn’t field a grounder with two out.

UA hitters struck out a season-high 18 times and didn't have an extra-base hit for just the third time in 2021. They also stole six bases after not having a steal since April 11.

Arizona and Stanford play the second of three games at 2 p.m. PT Saturday. A loss for the Wildcats would end their streak of six consecutive Pac-12 series wins.
