The NIT preseason tournament will open for the Arizona Wildcats on Nov. 18 against Fairleigh Dickinson, and with three wins Sean Miller's squad could face Duke in the championship game at Madison Square Garden.
The entire field was hardly complete until Tuesday.
REGION | LOCATION | VENUE | MATCHUPS |
---|---|---|---|
West | Tucson, Ariz. | McKale Center | Arizona vs. Fairleigh Dickinson | Rhode Island vs. Metro State |
East | Durham, N.C. | Cameron Indoor Stadium | Duke vs. UNC-Asheville | East Carolina vs. Norfolk State |
South | Tuscaloosa, Ala. | Coleman Coliseum | Alabama vs. Stillman | Georgia State vs. McNeese State |
North | Piscataway, N.J. | Rutgers Athletic Center | Rutgers vs. Canisius | Elon vs. Drexel |
To advance to Madison Square Garden, the Wildcats would need to defeat Fairleigh Dickinson on Nov. 18 and then Rhode Island in McKale Center on Nov. 19. The Rams will have a nice scouting report on UA. Assistant coach Luke Murray, son of actor Bill Murray, was a grad assistant on Miller's staff at Arizona in 2009-10.
If the No. 1 seeded Wildcats make it to New York, they would likely face No. 4 seed Rutgers on Nov. 27 before facing Duke on Nov. 29, if the winning goes in favor of the higher seeds.
