The Arizona Wildcats are back from their Rocky Mountain road trip. And the road trip was just that -- rocky.
Arizona's six-game win streak came to a halt against Colorado on Wednesday night, 75-72. The Wildcats followed that up with another "close, but no cigar" performance, losing to Utah, 70-64, on Saturday afternoon.
Coming in to the week, Arizona appeared to be playing their best basketball and was on the upswing in bracket projections. But an 0-2 week, plus several surefire tournament teams getting marquee victories, have dropped Arizona from a 4-seed, knocking on the door of a 3, down to a 6-seed in this week's Arizona Desert Swarm bracketology projection.
Arizona will close out the regular season this week with two home games against the California Golden Bears and Stanford Cardinal. That Cal game is big for both teams as they both appear to be tournament-bound, eager to prove that they can beat another team projected for March Madness.
The Utah Utes are the big winners of the week in the Pac-12. They've moved from a 5-seed to a 3-seed with their win over Arizona. Their RPI (No. 8 in the nation) is carrying their resumé to even greater heights.
We've currently got six Pac-12 teams in the field with one week left in the regular season. Arizona, Utah, the Oregon Ducks, Cal, the Colorado Buffaloes and USC Trojans.
The Oregon State Beavers, whose win over Utah in early February is making them look better and better, are just outside at this point. OSU currently leads our "first four out" and could use a big week, as they finish with a Los Angeles road trip to take on USC and UCLA.
Last Four In: Cincinnati, Florida, Gonzaga, LSU
First Four Out: Oregon State, Butler, Alabama, St. Bonaventure
Our projection fits right in with other bracket projections as Bracket Matrix's latest, averaging out 77 bracket projections, has Arizona as the top 6-seed in the field.
