Pac-12 Basketball postseason awards

Our choices were fairly unanimous

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

With the Pac-12 Tournament set to start on Wednesday, we decided to hand out some postseason hardware for the regular season.

Five of us voted, and this is what our Pac-12 awards look like. There was a ton of consensus on everything among us. Let us know if you think someone different should have won:

Player of the Year: Jakob Poeltl

Ryan Kelapire: He's averaging 17 points and nine rebounds per game, while shooting 66 percent from the field with a PER of 32.7. There's a reason he's projected to be a top-10 NBA Draft pick.

Matt Sheeley: Easier pick this year than most years, he's been the most dominant player in the conference.

Gabe Encinas: I feel like Utah would not be nearly as good without him

David Potts: He's one of the top scorers in the Pac-12, he's extremely efficient, and he's solid defensively. No one else is particularly close.

Jason Bartel: I'm in agreement here. With Utah's late-season surge, that made this pretty much a no-brainer.

Defensive Player of the Year: Gary Payton II

RK: He won it last year over Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and has improved since then. No way he doesn't win it again, in my opinion.

MS: I think Kaleb Tarczewski made a late push with his nightly block parties but GP2's overall season gives him the nod.

GE: I never watched Oregon State but Matt and Ryan approve so I'm going with Gary.

DP: I mean, it will be Gary Payton II, but I think it should be Oregon's Chris Boucher. He's averaging about 7 rebounds per game to go along with 3 blocks, and, though defensive rating isn't a perfect stat by any means, he leads the Pac-12 in defensive rating.

JB: I'm actually kind of with David on this one. I think Boucher is the better pick overall.

Coach of the Year: Dana Altman

RK: Oregon certainly wasn't anyone's preseason pick to win the conference, yet, here they are.

MS: Crazy, unpredictable season. Oregon was the best team so Altman deserves it.

GE: I don't think anyone really predicted them to finish on top over Arizona or Cal.

DP: If USC didn't fall off so much late in the year, I think this goes to Andy Enfield, but as it stands, Altman's team outperformed expectations.

JB: Again, at the halfway point, I had Enfield as the runaway winner with this, but with USC's struggles down the stretch, Altman gets it just because Oregon was the best team in a weird year.

First team All-Pac-12 picks:

RK: Jakob Poeltl, Ryan Anderson, Jaylen Brown, Andrew Andrews, Gary Payton II

MS: Jakob Poeltl, Ryan Anderson, Jaylen Brown, Dillon Brooks, Andrew Andrews
GE: Jakob Poeltl, Ryan Anderson, Jaylen Brown, Dillon Brooks, Andrew Andrews

DP: Jakob Poetl, Dillon Brooks, Jaylen Brown, Andrew Andrews, Gary Payton II

JB: Jakob Poeltl, Ryan Anderson, Jaylen Brown, Andrew Andrews, Gary Payton II
