The regular season has come and gone and Selection Sunday is just six days away.
The only thing standing between us and the NCAA Tournament is Championship Week.
Bubbles will burst and contenders will separate themselves from pretenders.
Among the teams that have already cemented themselves as a contender are the Arizona Wildcats, who split the Pac-12 regular season title with the Oregon Ducks. Arizona, Oregon and the UCLA Bruins enter the week with one thing in mind: Win the Pac-12 Tournament, grab the best possible seed in the West bracket of the NCAA Tournament.
How good could that seed be? That could depend on the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Gonzaga, with only one loss, has the inside track at the 1-seed in the West. But if they were to falter in the WCC Tournament, that spot would be up for grabs and the first logical choice would be the winner of the Pac-12.
We currently have Arizona as a 3-seed. So, a 1-seed would appear unlikely. But for Arizona to win the Pac-12 Tournament, they'll more than likely have to go through UCLA and Oregon on back-to-back nights. Could two straight wins over two National Championship contenders on a neutral floor propel Arizona into the conversation for a 1-seed if Gonzaga loses? They may need a few other things to break their way but it is possible.
For now, the Wildcats are still on the 3 line, looking at a region headlined by either the Kansas Jayhawks, North Carolina Tar Heels, or last year's National Champion Villanova Wildcats.
On to the brackets:
Last Four Byes: Syracuse, Marquette, Xavier, Wake Forest
Last Four In: Providence, USC, Illinois State, Vanderbilt
First Four Out: Georgia Tech, California, Rhode Island, Kansas State
Next Four Out: Houston, Illinois, Clemson, Georgia
We'll be updating our bracketology projections more and more as the week goes on.
