Kobi Simmons drops career-high 20 points in Grizzlies’ win vs. Pistons

The undrafted rookie is thriving in the NBA

Kobi Simmons’ decision to leave the Arizona Wildcats after one season was a controversial one, but the undrafted free agent is thriving at the next level.

Simmons dropped a career-high 20 points along with 7 assists as the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Detroit Pistons 130-117 on Sunday.

The rookie was 7-10 from the field, 4-7 from 3, and 2-2 from the line.

Here are the highlights:

It was Simmons’ 10th start for the Grizzlies. Memphis is one of the NBA’s worst teams, but that has allowed Simmons to get plenty of playing time.

Entering Sunday, he was averaging 19 minutes per game across 29 games.

Simmons is a “two-way” player, so he is only permitted to be in the NBA for a maximum of 45 days, but he has actually appeared in more games in the NBA than the G League this season.

So his decision to leave Arizona after one season is certainly paying off.
