Kobi Simmons scores 21 points in NBA Summer League opener

Great start to the summer for the former Wildcat

NBA Summer League began Monday and Kobi Simmons had a tremendous start.

The former Arizona Wildcat poured in 21 points in just 27 minutes as his Memphis Grizzlies beat the Atlanta Hawks, 103-88, in Salt Lake City.

Simmons was 8-of-13 from the field, including a 2-of-3 mark from 3. He also had three assists and two rebounds.

Only Jaren Jackson Jr., the Grizzlies’ first-round pick, scored more than Simmons. Here are Simmons’ highlights:

Simmons is entering his second season in the Grizzlies organization. A two-way player, he split time between the NBA and G League last season.

Simmons appeared in 32 games with the Grizzlies and 26 games with the Hustle. With the Grizzlies, Simmons averaged 6.1 points per game.

Memphis is one of the worst teams in the Western Conference, which could allow Simmons to emerge as a big-time contributor next season.

He’s certainly off to a good start.
