NBA Summer League began Monday and Kobi Simmons had a tremendous start.
Simmons was 8-of-13 from the field, including a 2-of-3 mark from 3. He also had three assists and two rebounds.
Only Jaren Jackson Jr., the Grizzlies’ first-round pick, scored more than Simmons. Here are Simmons’ highlights:
Simmons is entering his second season in the Grizzlies organization. A two-way player, he split time between the NBA and G League last season.
Simmons appeared in 32 games with the Grizzlies and 26 games with the Hustle. With the Grizzlies, Simmons averaged 6.1 points per game.
Memphis is one of the worst teams in the Western Conference, which could allow Simmons to emerge as a big-time contributor next season.
He’s certainly off to a good start.
Willing to bet Kobi Simmons got more out of developing with the Grizzlies last year than he would have had he stayed at Arizona. But not every prospect is lucky enough to get the right opportunity, chance to play through mistakes.— Jonathan Wasserman (@NBADraftWass) July 2, 2018
