The Arizona Wildcats are going to be connected to just about every transfer on the market this offseason.
Here’s another name to keep tabs on: Derrik Smits.
Arizona is one of several schools that have reached out to the Valparaiso graduate transfer, according to Jim Reamer, the head coach of Grassroots Indiana Basketball.
EDIT: Arizona, Ball State, Boise State, California, Georgia Tech, Indiana State, Miami (OH), UNC Charlotte, Oklahoma and Oregon State have contacted about Derrik Smits since announcing his transfer on Monday.— Jim Reamer (@JWReamer) March 21, 2019
Smits, a 7-foot-1 center, averaged a career high 12.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.0 blocks this season on 59.4 percent shooting, earning a spot on the Missouri Valley’s Most Improved team. He announced his decision to transfer Monday.
The Zionsville, Indiana native is the son of former NBA All-Star Rik Smits, who spent his entire 12-year career with the Indiana Pacers.
The younger Smits recently declared for the NBA Draft, but will not hire an agent, leaving the door open to a return to college. If he opts to transfer he will be eligible to play immediately at his new school.
Other transfers Arizona has been connected to this offseason include...
