Arizona sophomore Sevval Gül has entered the transfer portal, sources confirmed Thursday. The news was first reported by Raoul of wbbblog.com.

The 6-foot-3 post appeared in 16 career games with the Wildcats, averaging 6.8 minutes, 1.6 points, 1.4 rebounds on 48.1 percent shooting.

Gül was the only scholarship player who did not play in the team’s opener vs. NAU on Nov. 29. With the Wildcats returning Cate Reese and Semaj Smith and adding Trinity Baptiste, Marta Garcia and Lauren Ware this fall, Gül was at best the sixth post in the rotation.

Before joining the Wildcats, Gül played for Fenerbahce, one of the best clubs in Turkey. She also spent some time with the Turkish U18 Team as well as the U20 team. Gül averaged 11 points and eight rebounds for the U18 team at the 2018 European Championships.

“She is a skilled post player,” Arizona coach Adia Barnes said when Gül signed with the program. “She’s a player that has a great shot, she can shoot the 3, she can shoot from the high post, she’s really smart, a good passer, and she has good size at 6-4.”

Gül’s departure drops the Wildcats to 13 scholarship players and walk-on Lakin Gardner, still one of the largest rosters they’ve had under Barnes.
