Arizona women’s basketball is No. 7 overall seed in latest NCAA bracket reveal, but ASU loss not included

The Arizona women’s basketball team checks in as the No. 7 overall seed in the NCAA selection committee latest’s Top 16, but that is pretty much meaningless because it does not factor in Sunday’s overtime road loss to unranked Arizona State.

Right after the reveal, ESPN bracketologist Charlie Creme said Arizona “obviously has to fall back to the 3-line” because of that defeat, meaning they would not be in the Top 8 if the rankings were reevaluated.

“Arizona has not played particularly well very recently,” Creme said. “They struggled with Cal, they were beaten pretty soundly by Stanford, they lose today at Arizona State. I think Arizona is one of those teams that’s moving in the wrong direction and I don’t think there’s a really good case after today’s loss that they can be anything higher than a 3-seed. It will be interesting to see how they bounce back and perform in the Pac-12 Tournament. But right now certainly not a 2-seed (in the NCAA Tournament).”

Arizona is the No. 2 seed in the Pac-12 Tournament and will face the winner of the 7-10 game in the second round on Thursday. The top four seeds receive a first-round bye.

The Wildcats finished the regular season 15-4 overall and 13-4 in the Pac-12. They are really struggling offensively, shooting under 40 percent in each of their last three games.
