He’ll be hard pressed to win Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, but the last two weeks have all but assured Azuolas Tubelis makes the conference’s all-freshman squad.

Tubelis was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on Monday, his second consecutive honor in that category and third by a UA frosh this season. Bennedict Mathurin won the award after the first full week of conference play in early January.

The 6-foot-11 Lithuanian forward averaged 12.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in Arizona’s home sweep of the Washington schools, going for 16 and 15 in Saturday’s 75-74 win over Washington that included him hitting the game-winning jumper with 5.2 seconds left.

Tubelis, who has two game-winning shots this season, has recorded double-doubles in two of his last three games. He’s averaging 12.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game this season, shooting 50.2 percent overall and 34.2 percent from 3-point range.

The only Pac-12 freshman with more weekly honors is USC center Evan Mobley, a projected lottery pick who has won the award six times including the two prior to Tubelis’ back-to-back wins.
