Caleb Love’s college basketball career has been filled with quite a few significant accomplishments, including playing in the national title game. But prior to joining Arizona this season, Love had never been regarded as the best player in his conference over a given week.

That’s changed now that he’s with the Wildcats and in the Pac-12.

Love has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week after helping the UA to a pair of blowout wins last weekend at home. He is the third Arizona player to get honored, joining Kylan Boswell and Oumar Ballo.

In wins over Colorado and Utah, Love averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists on 60 percent shooting. He had 16 in the 97-50 victory over the Buffaloes and followed that up with 23 points, six rebounds and six assists in the 92-73 win over the Utes.

For the season Love is leading the UA in scoring at 17.7 points per game, tops of his career. His 4.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game and 44.4 percent shooting are also career bests.

At North Carolina, Love was a two-time ACC Rookie of the Week selection and made the all-freshman team in 2020-21. He was honorable mention all-conference in 2021-22 and won the league’s Most Improved Player award, and earned a second honorable mention nod in 2022-23.

Love was on the Pac-12’s preseason second team, and per KenPom.com he is second to Colorado’s KJ Simpson in the player of the year race.
